The Giveaway!!!

Ok, fellow knitters...enough teasing has gone on. All you need to do is post your Christmas knit list (don't give away any surprises)! After all, it is never too early to think about our holiday knitting.

The deadline is September 25-exactly 3 months before Christmas. Every Knit-a-long member who has posted their Christmas list by then will have their name entered into the drawing for something wonderful from Chris' workshop.

Good Luck!

Edit: Thank you to Doulicia for some very important suggestions and questions!!

Please post to this blog and if you don't plan to knit for the Holidays, just post your Knitting 'Wish List' - What you would knit for your loved ones - if only you had time and the perfect fiber!

Are we supposed to post here or on our respective blogs? I'm guessing here. Second question: what if we don't do Christmas knitting (a lesson I learned from my Mother in Law, who said she nearly killed herself trying to knit for everyone)? Can we put a Christmas knitting "wish list?" What we'd love to knit for folks but probably won't be able to finish on time?

Christmas knitting/wish list

I usually don't knit for anyone for the Holidays. But this year I have a couple of "It would be nice if..." knitting plans.

My superiors here at work have finally hired a part time receptionist to help me out. Since she sort of reports to me (but not really) and the guys around here don't know the niceties of having admin/reception help, I plan on making a felted bowl or box for my new receptionist. Or maybe pull something out of the "I knit it. Now what?" box as her gift.

I had grand ideas of making socks for my brothers for Christmas, but since one has size 13 feet and the other size 15, I think I'll pass on the holiday knitting for them and get to their socks when I can. It will be much more enjoyable for me that way.

Normally the only knitting related gift I give is to my friend Jen. I don't know what will catch my eye this year for her.

So there is my Christmas mayybe I'll knit list. ;-)

-The little purse to go with Tabitha's dress (yep, the dress is DONE! And ADORABLE!) Just to have time to post pix!
-a sweater for each child (3X 3 small sweaters)
-a sweater for a friend's newest baby
-2 prs of longies for little Wyatt.
Hopefully not too overly ambitious a list!! : )

My Christmas knitting? I don't have anything planned for any particular person. I've been knitting a bunch of odds and ends, mostly scarves and shawls. I'll be posting them to flckr and letting my family decide who wants what. I don't want to pressure myself or somebody in my immediate family.

For the "impossible to buy for" relatives, I'm making dish clothes in various shapes and sizes. I got Domino Knitting recently and plan on spending the weekend making potholders and clothes based on those designs.

I did make Besotted for my husband for his birthday (http://pantheonacres.blogspot.com/2007/09/time-to-destress.html), does that count?

I also finished my Rosebud Shawl and immediately cast on for Hattie's Rose Garden. (Post coming soon.)

If had all the time in the world? I'd like to make a beaded scarf for my MIL and the Storm Water Shawl for my mother.

Hi!

Holiday Knitting:

NFL Team color hats for
My Ogre (Husband,3 little Pigs (kids), FIL,MIL, in Team Color of their choice. Complete nightmare! No way, it's Holiday fun!

Ball Band Dishcloths for 6 girl relatives.

Hats of various sizes to go to the local school for kids who need warm noggins.

As for Holiday Gifts being done on time, no one expects me to finish anything by the holidays...so I started making hats for the school January 2007.

For me? My Retro Cardigan!!!!

I have been getting my "Christmas knitting List" done before Christmas to avoid the stress of a deadline! I have knit all my kids's hats and scarves but 1, and that may take me a while, he wants a skully hat and scarf set, and I have never done charts before. But, I am thinking of knitting like 15 scarves in various colors and patterns using all the single skeins I have in my stash, and then deciding who gets what in my "outer family coloser to Christmas. oh, yeah, the yoga socks I made for the boys, I might make a handfull of them for the girls in my outer family. Yep, I just decided, I will make a bunches of boyish scarves, and bunches of girly yoga socks and decide who gets what for Christmas when they are all done. A surprise I am going to do for my little kids, is knit them a toy each, something small amd simple, maybe a teddy bear, or something. I also plan on knitting all our Christmas stockings this year, I wont tell them, they will see them Christmas morning! What am I doing for Santa this year? hmmmmmmm, Santa might want something pretty and girly for herself, she will probably start it after Christmas( I plan on stocking up on roving and what nots for my new drop spindle, but have to wait till after holidays, 2 kids b-days in November then Christmas, just too close for comfort, lol)

I feel much better now seeing that i'm not the only one timid about committing to the pressure of holiday knitting!

I plan to knit my younger son a pullover of my own design. I'll be lucky to finish it by Christmas.

I WOULD like to knit each son a pair of mittens for their Christmas stockings (I'm thinking of the Target Wave Mittens from Norah Gaughan).

I also would like to make some fingerless mitts for my niece before the year ends.

Finally, my dear, patient spouse certainly deserves a sweater. But realistically, there's no way I'll get his nearly underway in the next 3+ months. He's a big guy and even with chunky yarn it will take hours and hours!

Anyway, those are my foreseeable future gift knits. I really wish I were a faster knitter and could give something handknit to all family members for Christmas. I love homemade gifts. My standing Christmas present is homemade jam. Which is much more do-able for large-scale giving!

Well I don't want to ruin this Christmas' surprises, so I'll just list some projects from last years' knitting. :)

Via Diagonale purse from Knitty for my sister-in-law.

Cozy wrap from Knitty for my mother-in-law.

Shifting Sands scarf from Grumparina for my Dear Hubby.

Buttonhole Bag totes from Mason-Dixon Knitting for my two nieces.

Here's an official Christmas knit with a deadline (I forgot this in my previous post):

Hats for the 4 women in my office. I cast on for the first this weekend (the Knit Flat Hat from Sallie Melville's The Knit Stitch).

hats are fun and quick.

I have some Sonoma and the pattern for the BRF XOXO hat. That will definitely be one of the bunch, too.
